- Old Site Information
- Few places in America still maintain the heritage of a pristine wilderness reminiscent of
a by-gone era, combined with the park improvements of a modern-day lifestyle.
- Rio Costilla Park is such a place.
- Unique and unspoiled.
- Remote, yet modern.
-
Rio Costilla Park's 10,000 acres of forest, valleys, meadows, rivers, and lakes look
very much the same as they did when explorers first crossed into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains
hundreds of years ago.
- The historic
influence of the past is still prevalent today.
-
Adjacent to Colorado's southern border, and conveniently located just 42 miles north of
the historic city of Taos, Rio Costilla Park is home to herds of free-roaming
Rocky Mountain elk and mule deer, plus populations of bear and mountain lion. Unspoiled,
these majestic symbols of America have been allowed to thrive. Through modern game
management techniques, practicies and policies, these populations have increased. Lakes and rivers within the
Park are stocked with rainbow trout and are home to the cutthroat trout.
-
Hunting, fishing, camping, hiking or sight-seeing - each season brings a distinctive and special
blend of nature's magic to this unspoiled land.
-
It is in this setting that every visitor realizes we are but a temporary guest,
becoming part of a true wilderness experience for but a brief moment of this magnificent
land's history. It is here we invite you to join with us to experience the majesty
of the outdoors, to enjoy its abundance, and to take part in its endless pleasures.
